Wyandotte County Dog Laws

Anyone who violated the ban before Thursday night`s vote could have been fined up to $1,000 or sent to a county jail for up to 90 days. KANSAS CITY, Kans. (AP) — Wyandotte County leaders voted Thursday night to end the county`s ban on pit bulls. The ban meant that residents could not own Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers or other dogs with the appearance and characteristics of any of these breeds, according to the county code. This program works with local animal control and law enforcement agencies in Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS, to limit opportunities for exposure to human rabies. Animal control officers or law enforcement agencies will undertake an initial investigation into the possibility of exposure to rabies and determine the best course of action, based on the likelihood of rabies exposure. Pets such as dogs, cats or ferrets that have bitten a person or have been bitten themselves are monitored for a certain time in a specific location. If it is determined that the animal is not rabid after the observation period has ended, the animal is returned to its owner. If you are concerned about an animal near you that may be rabid or have bitten someone, please contact the local animal control office where the bite or exposure occurred. The Communicable Disease Control Program works with local animal control officers, law enforcement agencies, veterinarians and hospitals to track people and animals that may be exposed to rabies. Working with animal welfare officials or law enforcement, they determine the type of exposure and develop management plans for the animal and the victim. The Communicable Disease Control Program also works with hospitals and health care providers to assess the need for post-incident prophylaxis. Positive cases of rabies that occur in Wyandotte County are reported to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for Public Health Surveillance.

However, like others, the united government will continue to enforce its Dangerous Dogs Ordinance. (913) 321-1445 (Monday to Friday) (913) 596-3000 (outside hours) The United Government`s Council of Commissioners voted 6-3 to lift the pit bull restriction. The ban had been in place for nearly 30 years. Liberty residents voted in April to lift the pit bull ban in their town, which had been in place for nearly 40 years. Eudora and Roeland Park have also lifted their pit bull bans in recent years. But now, KCK and Wyandotte County have joined a few other cities in getting rid of the racial ban.
